A Dose of God’s Medicine

“Truly I say to you, unless you change and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven.”

— Matthew 18:3 (AMP)

There is a sacred, hidden current flowing beneath the surface of these words, often overlooked by the religious and the weary alike: childlike joy is not a suggestion; it is a key.

Somewhere along the way, many traded in their laughter for labor, their wonder for weariness, and their joy for judgment. Religion—untethered from relationship—has a way of draining life from the very ones Yeshua came to set free.

But heaven was never meant to be sterile.

Heaven is not a court of stone-faced rule enforcers.

Heaven roars with laughter, resounds with singing, dances with delight.

Yeshua, the exact imprint of the Father’s heart, did not rebuke the children who ran to Him.

He welcomed them.

He blessed them.

He celebrated them.

And He told us plainly: “Unless you become like them…”

Become like them.

Not just in purity, but in playfulness.

Not just in trust, but in the unburdened capacity for delight.

Not just in sincerity, but in the ease of joy.

The Kingdom is built on the unforced rhythms of grace, not on clenched fists and gritted teeth.

Proverbs 17:22 (AMP) reminds us:

“A happy heart is good medicine, and a cheerful mind works healing, but a broken spirit dries up the bones.”

Laughter is not a luxury. It is a healing force.

Joy is not an accessory. It is a weapon against despair.

A cheerful heart is medicine

not just metaphorically, but scientifically proven.

Laughter lowers blood pressure.

Laughter releases endorphins.

Laughter strengthens immune systems.

Laughter resets our emotional circuitry.

The Maker knew what He was doing when He commanded joy.

Have we become so warped in our view of God that we imagine Him stoic, unsmiling, arms crossed in disappointment?

Did we forget that He is the One who fashioned puppies, the vast ridiculousness of the platypus, and the brilliant explosion of color in every sunset?

Did we forget that He is the One who thought up the giggle of a newborn?

Look at creation itself. It laughs.

The rivers clap their hands.

The mountains sing.

The stars dance.

Is this not evidence enough of God’s wild, uncontainable joy?

It is no accident that He tells us again and again: “Rejoice!”

Not when things are perfect.

Not when all prayers are answered.

Not when you’ve earned it.

But now.

As an act of defiance against despair.

As an act of trust in the unseen goodness of God.

As an act of childlike wonder that refuses to be stolen.

James 1:2 (TPT) says:

“My fellow believers, when it seems as though you are facing nothing but difficulties see it as an invaluable opportunity to experience the greatest joy that you can!”

Joy is not a reaction. It is a revelation.

It is the knowledge that no matter what shadows flicker around you,

you are seated with Christ in heavenly places.

You are held by the unshakable arms of your Father.

You are part of an unbreakable covenant of love.

This is why we can—and must—laugh out loud.

Laugh not because life is always easy,

but because eternity is already yours.

Laugh not because you are naive,

but because you are tethered to a hope that will never disappoint.

Laugh not because the world deserves it,

but because your Father delights in your laughter.

He smiles over you.

He rejoices over you with singing. (Zephaniah 3:17)

He spins and dances over you in joy.

Declarations

  • I declare that I will drink deeply from the river of God’s delight today.

  • I declare that laughter is my medicine, and joy is my warfare.

  • I declare that I have the heart of a child and the faith of a son or daughter of the King.

  • I declare that every shadow must flee before the sound of holy laughter rising within me.

  • I declare that I am anchored in a joy that hell cannot steal and life cannot diminish.

Prayer

Father of Joy,

Today I choose to receive Your medicine.

Restore to me the laughter that life tried to silence.

Awaken the wonder that religion tried to cage.

I reject the lie that holiness is heavy and dour;

I embrace the truth that holiness is radiant with joy.

Help me laugh with You, trust You like a child,

and dance through this life with fearless delight.

I choose Your medicine, and I drink deep of Your goodness.

In Yeshua’s mighty, joy-soaked name,

Amen.

Final Thought

The world needs to see you laugh again.

Not because everything is perfect—

but because you have seen the One who is.

Take your dose of God’s medicine today:

Laugh. Rejoice. Trust. Wonder.

And watch the chains fall.
