Only One Life: What Will Last?

“Only one life, ’twill soon be past;
only what’s done for Christ will last.”
The words come from an old hymn,
penned by CT Studd—
a name that still whispers through the halls of missionary history.
He had it all.
He gave it all.
Born into privilege,
raised in wealth,
he could have lived surrounded by comfort,
could have let the cheers of cricket fans crown his days.
He could have spent his life within the sound of chapel bells.
But he longed to hear a different sound—
the cries of those perishing without hope.
“Some wish to live within the sound of a chapel bell;
I wish to run a rescue mission within a yard of hell.”
And so, he left it.
All of it.
The inheritance.
The applause.
The prestige.
He gave away his fortune.
He gave away his name.
He gave away the future others had mapped for him.
He traded it for the jungle,
the unreached,
the forgotten,
the dangerous.
He traded it for souls.
For he had heard something louder than comfort:
the call of Christ.
⸻
One Life. One Chance. One Eternity.
We only get one shot at this.
One life.
One window of years.
One stretch of breath and heartbeat and opportunity.
And when it’s over—
it’s over.
The clock won’t reset.
The calendar won’t give back a lost day.
The breath won’t return once it’s gone.
“Only one life, ’twill soon be past;
only what’s done for Christ will last.”
Everything else fades.
Everything else crumbles.
Everything else gets folded into dust.
But what’s done for Him—
what’s done in Him,
through Him,
because of Him—
that echoes.
That endures.
That stands.
⸻
Spending or Investing?
The question isn’t:
“Will I use my life?”
We’re all using it.
Every breath is being spent somewhere.
The real question is:
“Will I spend it,
or will I invest it?”
A life spent disappears.
A life invested multiplies.
A life spent on comfort leaves a hollow legacy.
A life invested in eternity leaves an unshakable ripple.
Yeshua said,
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth,
where moth and rust destroy…
but store up treasures in heaven.” (Matthew 6:19-20)
CT Studd heard that call.
He didn’t just read it.
He obeyed it.
And in his obedience,
he left behind more than a cricket record.
He left behind souls rescued from the brink.
He left behind generations marked by the gospel.
He left behind a testimony that still provokes,
still convicts,
still beckons.
⸻
The Question That Will Come
One day, we’ll stand before Him.
One day, the books will be opened.
And the question won’t be:
“How much did you own?”
“How high did you climb?”
“How impressive were your achievements?”
The question will be:
“What did you do with what I gave you?”
“What did you do with Me?”
“What did you do for Me?”
The Lord impacts us
so we can impact others.
Every gift given.
Every word received.
Every breakthrough encountered.
It was never meant to end with us.
It was meant to flow through us.
⸻
How Will You Be Remembered?
How do you want to be remembered?
Not by the accolades,
but by the impact.
Not by the titles,
but by the lives changed.
Not by the applause of men,
but by the affirmation of heaven.
Will your name be remembered because you made others comfortable?
Or because you called them out of comfort and into Christ?
Will your legacy be safety?
Or sacrifice?
Will your life build earthly castles?
Or eternal kingdoms?
We get one life.
One chance.
One blink in the scope of eternity.
“Only one life, ’twill soon be past;
only what’s done for Christ will last.”

Prophetic Insight for Today
The Spirit whispers:
**“I didn’t call you to live within the sound of the chapel bell.
I called you to the frontlines.
I called you to the messy, the hard, the holy.
I called you to live where rescue is needed most.
You’re not called to blend in;
you’re called to stand out.
You’re not called to comfort;
you’re called to carry the cross.
And I will be your reward.
I will be your inheritance.
I will multiply what you entrust to Me.”**
⸻
Declarations
I declare that I will live my life as an investment in eternity.
I declare that what I do for Yeshua will echo into generations.
I declare that I will not shrink back from hard places; I will go where He sends.
I declare that I choose a legacy of souls, not comfort.
I declare that my one life will glorify the One who gave it.
⸻
Prayer
Yeshua,
let my life count for You.
Let every breath,
every step,
every word,
be invested into what will last.
Strip me of lesser ambitions.
Empty me of selfish pursuits.
Fill me with eternal purpose.
I don’t want to merely exist.
I want to burn for You.
Make me willing to go near the gates of hell
to rescue even one more soul.
Let me spend my life
so it multiplies in Your hands.
And when it’s all over,
when I see You face to face,
may You find me faithful.
Amen.

Prophetic Commissioning
**“I, the Lord, commission you now.
I have called you by name.
I have set My seal upon your life.
You were not born for comfort, but for calling.
You were not formed for applause, but for impact.
I am sending you into the harvest.
I am anointing you to carry light into the darkest corners.
I am releasing you to declare freedom where chains have long remained.
I place a sword in your mouth and fire in your bones.
I mantle you with boldness.
I robe you with compassion.
I crown you with purpose.
You will not shrink back.
You will not be silenced.
You will run your race with joy.
Every resource you surrender into My hands
I will multiply for kingdom purposes.
Every moment you give Me
I will redeem for eternal glory.
You will not live within the sound of the chapel bell;
you will live within the sound of My heartbeat.
Go.
Go into the places others have avoided.
Go into the fields white for harvest.
Go where comfort cannot take you.
And I will be your rear guard.
I will be your sustainer.
I will be your inheritance.
Only one life.
And this one—
this life I’ve entrusted to you—
will not be wasted.
Now arise, My child.
Arise, My messenger.
Arise, My witness.
Take your place.
The time is now.”**
