Secure in the Depths of His Love

There is a rhythm to the battles of life—a cadence that ebbs and flows like a tide we cannot control. Some days, it feels as though the waves rise suddenly and without warning, overwhelming even the strongest of hearts. You stand at the shoreline, watching the swell of the sea grow fierce, and within you, there is a choice to make: to fight the tide in your own strength or to trust in the One whose voice commands both the winds and the waters.

The psalmist David understood this rhythm. “Though many wish to fight and the tide of battle turns against me, by Your power I will be safe and secure. Peace will be my portion” (Psalm 55:18, TPT). These words, though spoken thousands of years ago, resound with an eternal truth for the heart weary from battle. There is something beyond the conflict, something beyond the chaos, and it is a love so vast, so unshakable, that it holds you even when the world unravels around you.

Imagine for a moment the depths of God’s love as an infinite ocean—endless, unfathomable, alive. You do not simply float upon its surface, subject to the current; you are drawn into its very depths. It is here, in the hidden places where the noise of the world fades and the roar of the waves grows quiet, that you find yourself completely surrounded. The battles of life may rage above, but here in the depths of His love, you are secure.

It is not a passive love; this shelter He offers. It is alive—a living, breathing force that wraps itself around you like a fortress and whispers to the storms: “Peace, be still.” Love is not the absence of conflict; it is the power that holds you steady within it. It is the assurance that even when the tide turns against you when those who rise up against you seem too numerous to count, you are not forsaken.

“Though many wish to fight…”

Who are they? The battles we face do not always wear visible armor. They can be unseen adversaries—fear, doubt, shame, the whispered lies of the enemy. They wage war in the mind and heart, leaving us exhausted before we even lift a hand to fight.

They come in moments of loneliness, in the sting of rejection, in the echo of our own insecurities. But David’s words point us to something profound: the power of God does not require the battle to cease for us to find peace. Instead, His power becomes the fortress where we dwell in the midst of it. “By Your power I will be safe and secure.”

There is a spiritual geography to this safety—a place not built by human hands but carved out in the heart of God Himself. It is here that peace is not just a fleeting feeling but a portion given, a gift secured. The word “portion” evokes images of provision, of something set aside specifically for you. Peace is not a distant dream but your inheritance as a child of God. It is the portion He has prepared, measured, and freely offered to you in the middle of every battle.

“Peace will be my portion.”

Let those words sink deep into your spirit. Speak them over yourself as a declaration: Peace will be my portion. Not fear. Not anxiety. Not defeat. Peace.

For the child of God, peace is not circumstantial; it is positional. It flows not from the absence of enemies but from the presence of God. The battles may come, but the love that holds you is stronger. It is a love that has already overcome every enemy, a love that has swallowed up death, a love that cannot fail.

And so, we return to the depths of that love, secure within its embrace. Picture it: You are there, resting in the arms of the Father. The waters of life no longer threaten to drown you because they have become a place of refuge. Though the world fights, though the tide turns against you, the battle belongs to the Lord, and He has already declared victory.

In this truth, your heart finds rest. The storms may rage, and the battle may roar, but you are secure. Safe. Held. Peace will be your portion. Love will be your shelter. And in the depths of His love, you will find that the battle’s greatest outcome was not merely survival but transformation. For the one who dwells in His love is never the same. You rise, not as one defeated, but as one who has been refined by the waters, made new, and strengthened by the power of the living God.

He is alive, and so are you—held in His love, secure forevermore.
