“But those who embraced him and took hold of his name he gave authority to become the children of God!”
— John 1:12 (TPT)
There is a moment when language becomes breath. When a verse you’ve read before suddenly arrests you, not because of its familiarity, but because the Holy Spirit slows it down… to be savored, to be seen, to be received again as if for the first time. That’s what happened when I read this verse from John 1:12—not as poetry, not as doctrine, but as a divine encounter written in sequence.
The Book of John: The Love Letter Wrapped in Flesh
For many, the Song of Songs is the scriptural love letter from heaven to earth—a divine romance unfolding in lyrical metaphor. For others, Psalms sings with soul-aching honesty and heaven-reaching adoration. But for me, John has always been the whispered letter of love from the Father’s heart, a scroll written in light, signed in blood, and delivered through the One who was the Word, and is the Word still.
And here, in this single verse, lies a hidden sequence—not just of theological truth, but of identity formation, inheritance access, and divine birthright.

The Hidden Order: Embraced, Took Hold, Given Authority
John 1:12 doesn’t begin with authority. It doesn’t even begin with faith. It begins with embrace. And then—they took hold. And then—He gave authority.
Let’s sit with the movement.
Embrace (Greek: δέχομαι – dechomai):
This word means to receive with deliberate and open arms—as one would receive an honored guest or a long-awaited child. This is not passive belief. This is an opening of the heart, the home, the soul. It’s intimate. It’s active. It’s the moment we stop resisting and begin resting in His nearness.
Took Hold (Greek: λαμβάνω – lambanō):
This is not the same as “receive” in a passive sense. It’s aggressive, assertive, intentional. It means to lay hold of in order to use, to grasp and make it your own. To take possession. To pull it into your reality. Not just admire from afar—but claim as belonging to you.
In the Aramaic context, it reflects not just receiving something, but taking hold of someone. Yeshua.
Given Authority (Greek: ἐξουσία – exousia):
Not just permission—but delegated power. The legal, spiritual, and relational right to become. This word reflects rulership, the right to act, and power that comes from being authorized by another. It isn’t earned. It’s granted. It doesn’t grow by striving—it flows from union.
To Become (Greek: γίνομαι – ginomai):
This doesn’t just mean to be called a child of God. It means to come into being. To become what you were originally designed to be. To awaken to your true identity, which had always existed in God’s heart.

Yeshua: Yes, You Are
And here’s where the Spirit made me pause…
Took hold of His name.
Not just believed in Him.
Not just accepted Him as Savior.
Took hold of His Name.
For those reading this for the first time, it’s important to know—there is no letter “J” in the Hebrew language. The name “Jesus” as we say in English today is a transliteration that evolved over time. His original Hebrew name is Yeshua (יֵשׁוּעַ), pronounced yeh-SHOO-ah.
Say it slowly: Yeshua.
Yes.
You.
Are.
Could it be that even in the sound of His name is the echo of your identity?
When you say Yeshua, heaven hears both the cry for salvation and the call to identity.
Yes, You Are forgiven.
Yes, You Are chosen.
Yes, You Are Mine.
Taking hold of His name is more than reciting syllables. It’s an act of spiritual agreement. A prophetic grabbing of the hem of His garment. A bold declaration that everything He is, He gave to you—because you are now in Him.
⸻
The Metaphysical Shift: What Happens When We Take Hold
When you take hold of something in the Spirit, your body, mind, and atmosphere begin to align.
Neurologically, the act of “taking hold” activates your reticular activating system (RAS)—the filter in your brain that decides what’s real, what to focus on, and what to ignore. When you take hold of His name, you begin training your brain to see from heaven’s perspective. His Name becomes your filter.
Physiologically, peace floods your nervous system when you embrace identity. Cortisol begins to reduce. Blood pressure stabilizes. Breath deepens. Your body comes into congruence with truth. You stop striving to become, and start abiding in who you already are.
Metaphysically, to take hold of Yeshua’s name is to vibrate with divine resonance. Every name carries frequency—and His name, spoken in faith, sends waves into the seen and unseen realms. It rearranges things. It parts things. It heals things. And yes—it identifies you.
⸻
The Daily Invitation: Take Hold Again
This is not a one-time event. It’s a daily rhythm. A moment-by-moment reality.
You are invited to:
Embrace Him anew each morning.
Take hold of His name with fresh faith.
Walk in the authority of a child whose identity is settled.
Speak His name slowly until your atmosphere begins to echo the truth:
Yeshua. Yes, You Are. And so am I—because I am in You.
⸻
I Hear the Spirit Say…
“You have not seen the fullness of what My name carries.
You have not yet touched the edges of its authority, the depths of its healing, the dimensions of its resonance in realms seen and unseen. My name is not just a title—it is essence. It is power encoded in sound. It is the vibration that holds all things together and tears strongholds apart.
You have yet to comprehend the weight, the wonder, the authority embedded in the breath of My name.
It is not spoken like other names. It does not echo like other words. It moves with force. It awakens what has been asleep. It breaks what has been chained. It opens what has been sealed. It is the banner over you, the blood that speaks, the whisper that calms, and the roar that wars on your behalf.
But I invite you now—not just to whisper it, but to take hold of it.
Let it pass through your lips with faith, not formality. Let it be the sound that anchors your soul when the winds rage. Let it be your weapon, your shield, your song. Wrap your hands, your heart, your whole being around Me. Cling to Me like the hem of My garment. Hold Me with the desperation of one who knows there is no life apart from Me.
Say My name like you know it’s the doorway to your deliverance.
Speak it with trembling awe—because demons flee at the sound of it. Speak it with unwavering trust—because every promise is “Yes” in Me. Speak it with joy—because I delight in revealing Myself to those who call upon Me.
Speak it with the reverence of one who’s been rescued, and the boldness of one who’s been adopted.
For when you say My name, you’re not just remembering history—you’re declaring identity. You’re not just reaching up—you’re standing in. You’re not begging for belonging—you’re walking in blood-bought sonship.
For in My name, you are not trying to become—you already are.
It is not a striving, but a sealing. You’re not earning favor—you are wearing it. You are not chasing legacy—you are carrying it.
The moment you embrace Me, I give you authority to become all you were written to be.
Authority to speak light into darkness. Authority to call forth destiny from delay. Authority to reign in realms you once only observed. I do not call you servant—I call you child, heir, co-creator of My kingdom on earth as it is in heaven.
Walk in it. Speak from it. Rest inside it.
Let it govern how you move and how you see. Let My name be the foundation of your confidence and the covering over your weakness. You never walk alone. You never speak alone. You never war alone.
You are My beloved child.
Chosen. Marked. Known. And no voice of the accuser can unspeak what I have spoken over you.
And I have signed My name over your life.”

Final Thought:
Authority is not earned—it is inherited.
It doesn’t come by performance. It comes by position—seated with Christ in heavenly places. That is your reality, even while your feet touch earth. And what is inherited cannot be revoked. It is blood-sealed, Spirit-breathed, and irrevocably yours.
And inheritance begins the moment you embrace the One who authored your life.
Not just in concept—but in covenant. Not just in theory—but in trust. Embrace Him fully, and He will unfold your scroll. He will awaken your design.
Take hold of His name today—not just with your lips, but with your whole being.
Let every cell of your body remember it. Let every thought be filtered through it. Let your inner world be reordered by it.
And let it become your filter, your force, and your frequency.
Let it shape what you hear, how you speak, what you carry, and where you go. Let the name of Yeshua be the resonance that harmonizes your life with heaven’s will.
Yes, You Are.
Forgiven. Empowered. Chosen.
Because He Is.
I Am that I Am.
And His name is the key that opens everything.
