The Battle Before the Breakthrough

"Yes indeed, it won’t be long now." God’s Decree. "Things are going to happen so fast your head will swim, one thing fast on the heels of the other. You won’t be able to keep up. Everything will be happening at once—and everywhere you look, blessings!"— Amos 9:13 (MSG)

There are moments in our journey when we hear the whisper of God so clearly. In the quiet places, He speaks, and His words bring hope, strength, and a deep assurance that the breakthrough we’ve been waiting for is just on the horizon. His voice is unmistakable, and His promise rings with the certainty of His divine will: “It won’t be long now.” These are words that echo in our souls, words that stir faith and anticipation, words that lift our eyes to the coming harvest of blessings.

But there’s something else that often happens when God speaks such powerful promises over our lives: all of hell takes notice.

It is no coincidence that when God whispers His promises of breakthrough, when He declares that it won’t be long now before His plans come to fruition, the spiritual attacks often intensify. Satan cannot stop God’s word from coming to pass, but he will do everything in his power to try and discourage you, distract you, or even destroy your faith before the breakthrough arrives. The enemy knows he is powerless against God’s decree, but he hopes to wear you down, to cause you to doubt, to make you lose sight of the promise just before it comes to pass.

The Increase of Opposition: A Good Sign

When the attacks increase, when the pressure mounts, when the betrayals and trials come, it’s easy to wonder, “Why now? Why, when God has spoken such hope and promise over my life, do things seem to be getting harder?” But the truth is, these attacks are often evidence that the breakthrough is closer than you think.

Satan doesn’t waste time attacking something that isn’t a threat to his plans. He knows that the promises of God spoken over your life carry the power of heaven to disrupt his schemes and bring light where there was darkness, hope where there was despair, and victory where there was bondage. The attacks, the opposition, the sudden increase in resistance—they are all signs that the enemy is aware of what’s coming, and he’s desperate to stop it.

But here’s the good news: he can’t.

The promise of God is not dependent on the enemy’s approval, nor is it subject to his attempts to sabotage it. When God says it won’t be long now, when He speaks a word of blessing and breakthrough over your life, that word is already set in motion. It will accomplish exactly what He intends, and no force in hell can stop it (Isaiah 55:11).

What the enemy hopes to do, however, is make you forget that truth. He hopes to make the pain and the pressure so overwhelming that you lose sight of God’s faithfulness. He uses broken, wounded, and sometimes outright evil people to discourage, attack, or betray you, hoping that the wounds they inflict will cause you to give up, to stop believing, to retreat from the promises of God.

Seeing the Bigger Picture: Both in the Seen and Unseen

When the attacks come—and they will—pause, breathe, and step back. Don’t react in fear or frustration. Instead, take a moment to see the bigger picture of what’s really happening. There’s more going on than meets the eye, both in the seen and unseen realms.

In the natural realm, the enemy will often stir up conflict, disappointment, and frustration through the actions of those around you. People you trusted may betray you. Situations that seemed certain may fall apart. Doors that appeared to be opening may suddenly close. These are not accidents. The enemy is trying to use external circumstances to distract and discourage you, to make you focus on the chaos instead of the promise. But remember, God is still at work.

In the spiritual realm, the battle is even more intense. The enemy knows that God’s word is about to manifest in your life, and he’s throwing everything he has at you in a last-ditch effort to derail what he knows he cannot stop. Angels and demons are at war over your destiny. This is why you feel the pressure increase, why things seem to go wrong all at once—it’s a sign that the spiritual battle has intensified because the victory is near.

But here’s the critical point: you are not fighting this battle alone. God is fighting for you. The angels of heaven are warring on your behalf, and God’s promise remains unshaken. The enemy may try to create confusion and fear, but God’s word is sure, and His promise will come to pass.

A Call to Faith: Hold On to the Promise

When God whispers, “It won’t be long now,” it’s not just a statement—it’s a call to faith. It’s an invitation to believe that what He has spoken will happen, even when everything around you seems to be falling apart. The enemy’s attacks may increase, but they are powerless to stop the hand of God from moving.

This is the moment to stand firm. This is the moment to dig your heels into the promises of God and refuse to be moved by what you see or feel. Satan’s goal is to make you quit, to make you give up just before the breakthrough arrives. But if you hold on, if you stand firm in faith, you will see the fulfillment of what God has promised.

Amos 9:13-15 paints a picture of overflowing blessing—a time when things will happen so fast that it feels like blessings are overtaking you, coming one after another, with no time to catch your breath. This is the promise of restoration, of abundance, of God making all things new. But before that season of rapid blessing comes, there is often a season of intense warfare.

God knows the timing. He knows exactly when to release the breakthrough, and He knows the purpose behind every delay, every trial, every challenge. What may feel like a setback is often God’s way of preparing you to receive what He has promised. He is aligning things in both the natural and spiritual realms, ensuring that everything is in place for the fullness of His blessing to be released.

Responding to the Attacks: Pause, Breathe, Trust

When the attacks come, your first instinct may be to react out of fear, frustration, or even anger. But this is a moment to pause. Step back from the immediate situation and ask God for His perspective. Ask Him to show you what is happening behind the scenes, both in the natural and spiritual realms.

As you pause, breathe. Remind yourself of the promises of God. Anchor yourself in His word, knowing that He is faithful to fulfill what He has spoken. The enemy may try to shake your faith, but God’s word is your foundation, and it is unmovable.

And finally, trust. Trust that God is working, even in the chaos. Trust that His timing is perfect. Trust that the very fact the enemy is attacking so fiercely is a sign that the breakthrough is near. Satan cannot stop what God has spoken. The most he can do is try to make you give up before you see the fulfillment. But if you hold on—if you stay the course—you will see God’s promises come to pass in ways that exceed your greatest expectations.

The Victory is Near

When God whispers, “It won’t be long now,” know that it is a declaration of what is already unfolding in the spiritual realm. The enemy will respond with attacks, but these attacks are evidence that the breakthrough is near. Take heart. God’s promises are sure, and His word will not return void.

When you feel the pressure, when the attacks come from all sides, when it seems like everything is going wrong—pause, breathe, and trust. Step back and see the bigger picture. God is moving. The attacks of the enemy are temporary, but the word of God is eternal.

It won’t be long now. Hold on. The victory is closer than you think.
