What If You Actually Believed Him

There is a question that has been sitting with me—almost hovering—like something Holy Spirit is not going to let me move past quickly.

What if you actually believed Him?

Not intellectually.

Not doctrinally.

Not in the way where you can quote Scripture, explain theology, and still feel distance in your body.

But believed Him.

Fully.

Unfiltered.

Unedited.

What if you believed that He is faithful?

What if you believed that when He said nothing can separate you from His love, He meant nothing?

“for I am convinced [and continue to be convinced—beyond any doubt] that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present and threatening, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the [unlimited] love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

— Romans 8:38–39 AMP

Nothing.

And yet… we still let something try.

We let shame try.

We let memory try.

We let accusation try.

We let the echo of past sin try.

We let the feeling of “I should have known better” try.

And slowly—subtly—we start to live like separation is possible.

Not because He moved.

Because we believed a lie.

What Sin Actually Is Beneath the Surface

Yes, sin is missing the mark.

That’s the simple definition.

But when you slow down—when you really sit with it—it goes deeper than behavior.

Because behavior is fruit.

Belief is root.

And if the root is distorted, the fruit will follow.

This is where things begin to open.

Because when I’ve studied, when I’ve leaned into writings beyond the surface—like the themes reflected in the Gospel of Mary and the Gospel of Thomas—you start to see a consistent thread that doesn’t contradict Scripture, but presses deeper into the interior life.

In the Gospel of Mary, there is this emphasis that what binds the soul is not merely external action, but internal confusion—being entangled in what is not aligned with truth. The language speaks of disordered desire, misperception, and being held in what is not real rather than what is.

In the Gospel of Thomas, Yeshua says:

“If you bring forth what is within you, what you bring forth will save you. If you do not bring forth what is within you, what you do not bring forth will destroy you.”

And again:

“When you know yourselves, then you will be known, and you will realize that you are children of the living Father.”

Now take that and hold it up next to Scripture:

“Everything that is not from faith is sin.”

— Romans 14:23 AMP

And:

“And He [when He comes] will convict the world about sin [the true nature of it], and about righteousness, and about judgment: about sin [the true nature of it], because they do not believe in Me and have refused to trust in Me.”

— John 16:8–9 AMP

That last one is the hinge.

Because Yeshua Himself defines the root of sin:

Not believing in Him.

Not trusting Him.

So now the picture expands.

Sin is not just:

• what I did wrong

• what I said wrong

• what I shouldn’t have done

It is:

• where I stopped believing

• where I stepped out of trust

• where I agreed with something that wasn’t Him

• where I misperceived who He is… or who I am in Him

At its core, sin is not just disobedience.

It is misbelief about who Yeshua really is.

And when you see it like that, everything shifts.

Because now repentance is not just behavior modification.

It is realignment.

It is coming back into agreement with truth.

It is returning to what has always been true… even when I wasn’t living like it.

The Lie We Keep Rehearsing

If we’re honest, this is where the battle actually lives.

Not in whether God loves us.

But in whether we believe it applies to us… right now.

After that mistake.

After that thought.

After that moment.

After that pattern.

After that thing we said we would never do again.

Because the enemy is not creative.

He is repetitive.

And he has done a very strategic job—generation after generation—of reinforcing one central lie:

“You’ve gone too far this time.”

Or its quieter version:

“Yes, God loves you… but not like that anymore.”

And if he can get that lie to land, even slightly, everything shifts.

Because now:

• you hesitate to come close

• you filter your prayers

• you shrink your authority

• you question your position

Not because anything changed in heaven.

Because something shifted in your belief.

But What Does God Actually Say?

“If we [freely] admit that we have sinned and confess our sins, He is faithful and just [true to His own nature and promises], and will forgive our sins and cleanse us continually from all unrighteousness [our wrongdoing, everything not in conformity with His will and purpose].”

— 1 John 1:9 AMP

Notice what it doesn’t say.

It doesn’t say:

He forgives… but keeps a distance.

He cleanses… but watches you carefully after.

He restores… but withholds intimacy.

No.

It says:

He is faithful.

He is just.

He forgives.

He cleanses.

Continually.

Which means the moment you turn—truly turn—there is no gap on His end.

The only gap that can exist… is the one we believe into existence.

Why Do We Hold On If We’ve Repented?

This is the question that doesn’t let me go.

If we’ve repented…

if we’ve turned…

if we’ve brought it to Him…

why do we still hold it?

Why do we replay it?

Why do we let it define how we approach Him?

And the answer is not condemnation.

It’s conditioning.

We have been trained—over time—to equate:

• mistake with distance

• failure with separation

• imperfection with disqualification

But that is not Kingdom.

That is religion.

That is a smaller version of the truth.

Because the cross did not create conditional closeness.

It secured access.

“Therefore let us approach the throne of grace with confidence and without fear, so that we may receive mercy [for our failures] and find [His amazing] grace to help in time of need [an appropriate blessing, coming just at the right moment].”

— Hebrews 4:16 AMP

Confidence.

Not hesitation.

Not distance.

Not filtered access.

Confidence.

If You Could See the Unseen

I think about this often.

If we could actually see what is happening in the unseen when we turn back to Him…

it would undo us.

The angelic activity.

The immediate response.

The covering.

The cleansing.

The restoration.

The nearness.

We would never hesitate again.

We would never sit outside of His presence wondering if we’re allowed in.

We would run.

Every single time.

Because heaven does not react to repentance with suspicion.

Heaven responds with restoration.

The Real Invitation

So maybe the question isn’t:

“Did I sin?”

Maybe the deeper question is:

“Do I believe what He said about what happens next?”

Because the moment after repentance is not meant to be filled with shame.

It’s meant to be filled with return.

Return to closeness.

Return to identity.

Return to truth.

Return to Him.

The Scroll Within the Scroll

What if sin is not just about what you did—but what you believed in that moment?

What if, like Yeshua revealed, the deepest fracture is not behavior but disbelief?

What if, like the early echoes preserved in other writings suggest, the soul becomes bound not just by action but by agreeing with what is not true?

And what if repentance is not just turning from behavior—but returning to truth?

Because if nothing can separate you from His love…

then the only thing that ever makes it feel like separation…

is believing that you are.

Final Thought

Maybe the enemy’s greatest strategy was never just to tempt you into sin.

Maybe it was to convince you that after you did, you were no longer as close as you were before.

Because if he can get you to believe that…

he doesn’t have to keep you bound.

You’ll do it yourself.

But the truth is this:

You are not held together by your perfection.

You are held together by His faithfulness.

And the moment you turn back—

you don’t start over.

You return to where you’ve always been held.

So what would happen…

if you actually believed Him?

I Hear the Spirit Say:

“Beloved, you are closer than you think.

Closer than your thoughts have told you.

Closer than your last mistake tried to convince you.

Closer than the memory you keep replaying has allowed you to feel.

And I need you to hear Me clearly:

I have not stepped back.

I have not withdrawn.

I have not re-evaluated My love for you based on your performance.

I am not watching you from a distance waiting to see if you get it right this time.

I am with you.

I have always been with you.

And the moment you turned—even slightly—My presence did not hesitate.

It met you.

Because I do not relate to you from your failure.

I relate to you from My faithfulness.

And this is where I am undoing something in you.

You have been taught to measure closeness by consistency.

You have been taught to measure access by performance.

You have been taught to measure intimacy by how well you think you are doing.

But My Kingdom does not operate that way.

My love is not fragile.

My presence is not conditional.

My nearness is not something you earn—it is something you return to.

And even that return…

is not you finding Me.

It is you remembering where I have always been.

Listen to Me:

Sin is not stronger than My love.

Failure is not louder than My voice.

Your missteps are not more powerful than My covenant.

What has bound you is not what you did.

It is what you believed about what you did.

And I am inviting you out of that agreement.

Out of the quiet distance.

Out of the subtle hesitation.

Out of the place where you approach Me as if you are not fully welcomed.

Because you are.

Fully.

Right now.

There is no version of you that I am waiting for before I draw near.

There is no future version of you that I will love more than I love you in this moment.

There is no cleaner, better, more polished version of you that gains more access than you already have.

You have been cleansed.

You have been covered.

You have been brought near.

So why do you stand far?

Why do you pause at the doorway?

Why do you rehearse what I have already removed?

That is not conviction.

That is accusation.

And it does not come from Me.

My Spirit convicts to draw you closer.

The accuser speaks to push you away.

Learn the difference.

Feel the difference.

Because one leads you into My arms…

and the other leaves you standing outside wondering if you belong.

And you do belong.

You have always belonged.

Not because you did everything right.

But because I chose you.

Because I called you.

Because I covered you.

Because I made a way through My Son that cannot be undone by your humanity.

So come closer.

Not later.

Not when you feel better about yourself.

Not when you think you’ve “fixed it.”

Now.

Come close with what you’re carrying.

Come close with what you’re still processing.

Come close with what you don’t fully understand yet.

Because I am not waiting for your perfection. I am inviting your presence.

And the more you come close…

the more the lie loses its voice.

The more you remain…

the more truth becomes what you naturally live from.

The more you receive My love…

the more everything in you begins to realign.

So stop measuring the distance.

Stop negotiating your access.

Stop believing that you are further than you are.

You are not separated.

You are invited.

You are not disqualified.

You are covered.

You are not outside.

You are held.

So come back into agreement with what is true.

And let My love do what it has always done—

restore you

renew you

and remind you

that you were never as far as you thought.

only as close as you are now willing to believe.

Because nothing can separate you from My love.”
