Chasing the Light

“For with You is the fountain of life; in Your light we see light.” — Psalm 36:9 (AMP)
It started with something simple.
A breeze.
A flicker.
A shimmer of light bouncing off a shell chandelier that hangs lazily from the eave of my back porch—dancing in rhythm with the wind.
And one of my dogs, tail wagging, legs twitching in excitement, darted after it like it was the most important thing he could ever catch.
It was innocent.
It was hilarious.
It was holy.
At first, I laughed.
“Aw, silly dog,” I thought, watching him nip at the light with the same determination he reserves for tennis balls or snacks that fall from the counter.
But then—the whisper.
The kind of whisper that interrupts the ordinary. The kind that turns back porch mornings into divine invitations.
“That’s how you should be.”
The words pierced me in the most beautiful way.
That’s how I should be? Chasing light with childlike joy? Unbothered by how elusive it seems?
Yes. Exactly that.
Suddenly the porch became a new dimension of His sanctuary, and the dog’s playful pursuit transformed into a living parable. Because here was a creature—not overthinking, not strategizing, not wondering if the light would come again—but simply responding to the invitation of movement and beauty.
The light moved.
So he chased it.
No questions.
Just delight.

Becoming a Chaser of Light
We often complicate what was always meant to be simple:
Follow the Light.
But life weighs heavy. We analyze. We second-guess. We hesitate.
We calculate the cost instead of counting it joy.
Yet light never asks to be understood. It asks to be followed.
In John 8:12, Yeshua said, “I am the Light of the world. Whoever follows Me will not walk in darkness, but will have the Light of life.”
And maybe that’s it.
Maybe following the Light isn’t about always knowing where it’s going, but trusting that if He moves, I should move too.

The Dance of the Light
Light rarely stays still.
It bounces, reflects, bends, and refracts.
One moment it’s steady. The next, it’s darting across the floor.
One day it’s easy to catch. The next, you must leap in faith to find it.
And like my dog on the porch, we are invited to participate in its dance.
To chase without shame.
To seek without fear.
To move with the wind of the Spirit and believe that even if we don’t catch the Light in full today, the joy was in the pursuit. And perhaps that’s the point.
Because what if chasing the Light is the very thing that trains your spirit to recognize where He’s leading next?
What if joy is found not only in catching but in trusting the direction He moves?
What if Light, like Love, was never meant to be held—but followed, reflected, and rejoiced in?

I Hear the Spirit Say…
“Chase Me. Play again. Run after what shimmers with truth and beauty, even if others think you’re foolish for doing so. Let your soul return to the wide-eyed wonder you had before the world told you to grow up. Learn from the wagging tail and excited leaps—because the ones who chase Light without hesitation are the ones who find themselves illuminated from the inside out.
I do not hide to frustrate you. I do not move to confuse you. I move so you’ll follow—not in fear of losing Me, but in joy of discovering Me again and again in deeper places. Every flicker of Light you chase is an invitation to encounter Me in a new dimension.
Let go of the need to control how I show up. Let go of the timeline you’ve clung to. Let go of the fear that I’ve stopped moving. I am always moving. I am always near. I am always Light. And in the movement, I am making you sensitive to the subtle, training your eyes to perceive the invisible, and reawakening the sacred delight of holy pursuit.
Chase Me like a child who has nothing to prove but everything to gain. Let joy be your map. Let play be your weapon. Let laughter be your warfare. Because in chasing the Light, you are not just following Me—you are becoming like Me.”

Prayer: The Light Is Calling
Abba Father,
Radiant One,
You who dwell in unapproachable light—yet made Yourself approachable through Your Son, Yeshua—I come before You with childlike wonder and holy longing. Let every part of me be reawakened to the joy of the chase, to the innocence of pursuit, and to the divine delight of Your presence.
Lord, I confess how often I’ve forgotten how to play—how to see You in the small, how to delight in Your movement, how to chase You with the fire of first love. I’ve treated Your light like something to be studied rather than savored. But today, I come running again.
Let my feet move in rhythm with the Light that dances before me. Let my heart beat with excitement at the glimpses of Your presence. I do not need to understand it all—I just want to follow. I just want to be near You.
You said, “Chase Me like the light across the floor,” and I say back, “Yes, Lord—I will.” Not with fear, but with faith. Not with striving, but with surrender. I choose to run, not for achievement, but for alignment. I don’t chase You to catch You—I chase You because You already caught me.
So Father, peel away the layers of false dignity that keep me from delight. Unclench the fists of control, and place within my hands the freedom to play again. Let joy be my compass and wonder be my song.
Holy Spirit, if the light moves left—I’ll follow. If it moves right—I’ll run. If it circles around—I’ll laugh and spin until I collapse in Your arms, breathless with awe and dripping with joy. You are the prize. You are the Light. You are the moment I live for.
Teach me to hear Your whisper again in the windchime, in the shimmer, in the reflection on the ground. Open my spiritual eyes to see You in ways I’ve overlooked. Make me a seeker of Your movements, not just Your miracles. Let my days be full of light-chasing moments—until even my shadow bears the evidence of being near You.
And when I grow weary in the chase, remind me: You’re not running away from me. You’re running toward the part of me that dares to believe. You’re awakening the fire. You’re lighting up the path. You’re calling the child within to come alive.
So I come.
Let my heart be swift,
Let my eyes be sharp,
Let my spirit be free—
For I was made to chase the Light.
And the Light is calling.
In the name of Yeshua,
The Light of the World,
Amen.

Final Thought
The way my dog chases the light—without shame, without hesitation, with full-bodied joy—has wrecked me in the best way. Not because he understands what the light is, but because he trusts that it’s worth chasing.
How much more should we, who carry the breath of the Divine, the whisper of the Word, the image of God Himself, chase the Light that moves just ahead of us? That flickers through the trees at dawn. That bounces off the pages of scripture. That lives in the eyes of those we love and the laughter we thought we lost. That Light is Him.
And when we chase it—when we pursue Yeshua not as a far-off concept, but as a present, radiant, moving Light—we become children again. Not immature. Not naïve. But filled with awe. Bold with wonder. Unashamed of our delight. Playful in our obedience. We stop trying to look “spiritually composed” and just run toward Him, arms open, eyes lit.
There is something incredibly prophetic about chasing Light. Because in the chasing, your steps begin to synchronize with its Source. You are magnetized, not just by curiosity—but by calling. And what begins as play becomes pursuit. What starts as silly becomes sacred. What you thought was your distraction becomes your destiny.
Because Light doesn’t run away from you—it runs to awaken you.
And the more you chase the Light, the more it will chase you back… not as a game, but as a promise: that those who seek will find. Those who hunger will be filled. And those who run—will be met.
So don’t stop. Laugh if you must. Cry if you need. But chase the Light. Chase it until your heart burns with it. Until your eyes shine with it. Until your life becomes it.
Because you were made for this.
And the Light you’re chasing?
It’s chasing you, too.
