This Jesus

There is no wasted ink in the Bible.

Every word breathes, drips, carries, and conveys more than meets the natural eye.

As I was sitting with Acts 1:11—

“Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into the sky? This [same] Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will return in just the same way as you have watched Him go into heaven”

the Holy Spirit illuminated a word that most would skim right past:

This.

Why “this Jesus”?

Why not just “Jesus”?

Why add the word at all?

What we see as casual, God intended as intentional emphasis.

The angel wasn’t using “this” as a filler word.

It was prophetic precision.

First, let’s explore the language:

The original New Testament was primarily written in Greek, but the thought-world and language of the people were Aramaic and Hebrew.

The Greek word used here for “this” is οὗτος (houtos), meaning this one specifically, this very one, not another, this exact same one you know personally.

It is demonstrative.

It points, isolates, magnifies.

It is a verbal finger, jabbing the air—this and no other.

In Hebrew and Aramaic, the equivalent would be זה (zeh)—again, meaning this exact one, this very one, emphasizing specificity and unchangeability.

The Spirit brought to my attention:

This was necessary because the world would introduce counterfeits.

Why did the angel say “this” Jesus?

Because…

  • There would be others claiming to be “the Christ.”

  • There would be false gospels.

  • There would be versions of Jesus remade in human image, diluted by culture, wrapped in false light.

The angel was preemptively sealing the authenticity and identity of the true Messiah before human history had time to rewrite Him.

“This Jesus” means:

  • The crucified Jesus.

  • The risen Jesus.

  • The ascended Jesus.

  • The King of Glory who bled, died, rose, and will return in power.

Not a philosophical concept.

Not a social activist.

Not a mythic figure twisted by time.

But this very one

The carpenter’s hands pierced with nails.

The Rabbi whose words set hearts ablaze.

The Lamb of God who roared like a Lion at death itself.

This Jesus.

Now, let’s go deeper: What does this mean for you and me?

If the angels themselves emphasized this Jesus,

how crucial it is for us to know Him truly

not the Jesus of convenience, culture, or religion.

We must anchor our lives in the living, breathing Word-made-flesh

—not an idol of opinion, but the radiant, returning King.

This Jesus you worship…

Is He the One who demands your whole life?

Is He the One who confronts and comforts, stretches and strengthens?

This Jesus

burns away pretense and leaves only purity.

This Jesus

is both consuming fire and tender shepherd.

Metaphysical Revelation:

The very phrasing of “this Jesus” collapses time.

The Jesus the disciples saw ascending is the same Jesus who will return.

Outside of time, He is unchanged, unaltered by eras or empires.

His being echoes through quantum realities, across fields of energy we cannot yet comprehend.

He is the fixed point—the true North—even as creation itself groans, expands, and spirals toward His return.

The “this” cuts through the noise of a million false lights.

The “this” anchors you when storms swirl and doctrines sway.

Declarations:

  • I declare that I belong to THIS Jesus, the risen and glorified King.

  • I declare that no counterfeit shall deceive me, for my spirit recognizes the voice of the Shepherd.

  • I declare that I will live as an arrow pointing to THIS Jesus, not a diluted image, but the living Word of God.

  • I declare that my faith is rooted in the One who shattered death and reigns victorious.

  • I declare that I walk in full allegiance to the true Messiah, and I await His return with oil in my lamp, burning brightly for His glory.

  • I declare that I am aligned with the Lamb who is also the Lion, and no shifting shadow will cause me to turn away.

Prayer:

Father,

Anchor my spirit in the living Christ.

Let every thought, every word, every motive in me point to this Jesus

the true and only Son of God, the Savior who reigns forever.

Where falsehoods and shallow portrayals try to entice me,

let the fire of the Spirit burn with discernment and devotion.

Unite my heart to Yours in fierce loyalty.

Let me carry the fragrance of Heaven that unmistakably testifies to the authentic Yeshua.

Strengthen my feet to stand unmoved,

and my voice to proclaim boldly:

“I know whom I have believed, and I am persuaded that He is able!”

May I be a living signpost for the returning King,

unashamed, unshaken, and ablaze with holy love.

In the name of this Jesus,

Amen.

Final Thought:

If the angels so fiercely pointed to this Jesus

then so must we.

Let your life be a living arrow that points unmistakably, unapologetically to the realJesus.

Not the safe one.

Not the silent one.

Not the culturally convenient one.

The resurrected Son of God, the One who shattered death,

who bled pure light into the earth,

who holds the keys of death and hell in His pierced hands—

This Jesus.

He is not hidden from you.

He stands revealed to those who dare to look not just once, but continually—

to search, to adore, and to become like Him.

This Jesus is your soon-coming King.

This Jesus is your burning center.

This Jesus is your forever home.
